Why EV Vehicles Are More Efficient Than Gas (ICE) Vehicles

In this video, I break down why electric vehicles (EVs) are fundamentally more efficient than traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Instead of just saying EVs are “better,” I go into the physics behind it.

We look at:

  • Energy density and how fuel vs electricity compares
  • How much energy is actually used vs wasted
  • Why ICE engines lose a large portion of energy as heat
  • How EV systems deliver power more directly and efficiently

I also use a simple comparison:

Just like the shift from horses to engines improved transportation efficiency, EVs represent the next step in that evolution.

This isn’t theory — it’s real-world physics applied to modern transportation.

If you work around power systems, generators, or electrical infrastructure like I do, this stuff starts to make a lot more sense when you see it broken down properly.

Why This Matters

Understanding efficiency isn’t just academic — it affects:

  • Charging infrastructure
  • Power demand
  • System design
  • Cost of operation

As EV adoption grows, knowing how energy actually moves and gets used becomes more important.

EV Charger Resources

At DuraPower Solutions, we specialize in real-world EV charger troubleshooting, maintenance, and system diagnostics. This page is designed to provide practical insights, common issues, and helpful resources based on actual field experience.

Common EV Charger Issues

• Chargers showing “Unavailable” status
• Payment systems failing (credit card, RFID, or app)
• Communication errors (OCPP / network issues)
• Damaged or worn connectors (CCS / CHAdeMO)
• Power cabinet faults (low voltage supply, PLC issues)
• Environmental damage (flooding, moisture intrusion)

EV Charging Tips

• Always inspect the connector before plugging in
• If one dispenser fails, try another at the same site
• Avoid forcing connectors—this can damage pins
• If payment fails, try an alternate method (card vs app)
• Report recurring issues early to prevent downtime

How EV Charging Works (Simplified)

EV chargers communicate with the vehicle before delivering power. This process includes:

• Proximity Pilot (PP): Detects connection and latch status
• Control Pilot (CP): Sends communication signals between charger and vehicle
• Voltage signaling (typically 12V dropping to ~9V) indicates readiness to charge

If this handshake fails, charging will not start.

When to Call a Professional

You should contact a qualified Electrician if:

• Chargers remain unavailable or offline
• Payment systems are inconsistent
• Charging sessions fail repeatedly
• Connectors or cables show damage
• Equipment shows signs of electrical or environmental failure
